Sensei Barry Harte 4th Dan M.G.R.Y
Barry Harte Sensei I was
born in North London
in 1969 and from a early age I had an interest in Martial Arts. I gained some
experience in boxing and Shotokan Karate. In 1983 I began studying Kyokushinkai
Karate and Wado Ryu under Gordon Critchlow Sensei based in I started to look at other arts and was very impressed with the powerful joint locking, striking, throwing and groundwork of Ju Jitsu so in Nov 1990 I began training in Ju Jitsu in Stoke Newington under Ju Jitsu International. In 1991/2 I moved to North West London. It was at Mill Hill Ju Jitsu Club that I reached Black belt. My Instructor moved to America In 1998 and handed the dojo over to myself and a colleague. In May 2005, I decided to leave Mill Hill Ju Jitsu Club and teach under the banner of “Hakudakan Ju Jitsu Dojo”. I achieved Ju-Jitsu Black Belt 1st Dan (Shodan) in 1996, 2nd Dan (Nidan) in 1998, followed by 3rd Dan (Sandan) in 2001. On the 10th December 2005 I graded to (Yondan) 4th Dan by John Griffiths Hanshi 7th Dan, Mushin Budo Association. During the years I have researched to see what would complement Ju Jitsu, I studied Yoshinkan Aikido and other arts. I developed an interest in knife techniques and in 2000 I started to research the Filipino Martial Arts. This lead me to train with Guru Bob Breen. Kali has an impressive knife and stick repertoire along side an excellent empty hand based system, I could instantly see how well these systems would integrate and further strengthen my Ju Jitsu skills. In 2001 Guru Bob invited me to join Jeet Kune Do-Kali International. I train regularly in Kali & JKD under Guru Bob and am currently ranked as Apprentice Level 2 Instructor, in Filipino Kali and Jeet Kune Do.
Guru Bob Breen & Barry For many years I have been a private student of Guru David Onuma who is the founder of Combined Fighting Systems (CFS) and I am studying Kali, JKD and the CFS syllabus. Guru David has been an Inspiration to me and is good friend.
Guru David Onuma In 2004 I was inaugurated into the Black Belt Guild (Guild of Renmei Yadansha) M.G.R.Y by Soke Kevin Pell 8th Dan. I have trained with Soke on many occasions including Body Guard (Close Protection) training. I have taught on Ishin Ryu International seminars at the request of Soke Pell, which is a great privilege. I am a qualified First Aid Instructor/Examiner. I continue to teach and train in Ju Jitsu, Kali, JKD, with my main focus being on Ju Jitsu. More recently I have been studying Judo under the BJC. |
